Sweetwater Branch Wetlands Park field trip
February 2018
An unseasonably warm, beautiful February morning provided both expected and unexpected pleasures for the 16 people from Santa Fe Audubon visiting Sweetwater Branch Wetlands Park with Alachua county EPD naturalist Michael Drummond. Special treats included a Black-crowned Heron, who posed cooperatively near the boardwalk, a Snail Kite, an American Bittern, three (3!) Soras and a Purple Gallinule. There were ample opportunities to observe closely the distinctions between Savannah and Swamp Sparrows. 33 bird species were recorded. A beautiful Banded Water Snake was an added treat.
